Inspired by Episode 430 of the Incomparable , which drafted film scores, I’ve updated my Top-N list to include my own list of favorite movie scores. I mostly listen to these to drown out noise when I’m trying to work somewhere noisy, or when it’s too quiet.
- The Imitation Game — calm, serene, and appropriately cerebral for a movie about the man who invented the computer
- Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse — more upbeat and intense, plus a short non-sequiter section when Spider Pig shows up
- Gone Girl — I tried this one out because of how much I loved The Social Network score, which was also by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross
- Blade Runner 2049 — heavy and thumping, just like the movie; especially good when you need sci-fi inspiration
- The Empire Strikes Back — I love this one so much it can be a little distracting
- The Social Network — perfect pairing for a great movie
- Journey (technically a video game) — as hard to describe as the video game
- TRON Legacy — some of Daft Punk’s best work
